Remembrance Day

November 11, 2008 | Filed Under Photography

The CBC was just announcing the we were coming up to 11 AM and the observance of Remembrance Day as I pulled up to park at Goldstream Park this morning. As I stood on the riverbank in the rain looking at the grey bodies of salmon it was hardly a stretch to make a connection to the bodies of men on the fields of Europe. The big difference, of course, being this was the normal end of a productive salmon life and they have no choice, the men who died were just starting their lives and they made the choice, the sacrifice.

A very unique take on today’s solemn occasion. Disturbing. But it works. Yes, very disturbing.
