There's an element of documentary in a large amount of my work but there's a lot more to it than that for me. I do want to make pictures that are artful, that's for sure, but I'm also interested in the way that memory works. I use photos to express something in the same way I might use a drawing or painting to express something
Usually, with images hung on a wall, people move to look at images that interest them, they can skip images, or move out of the order the artist intends. With a book, beyond just controlling that viewing experience, you can go beyond just the sense of sight and incorporate touch, sound, text, and other means of telling your story more carefully as well.
I love to tell stories the way I see them as oppose to translating another person's vision, which is what you often have to do when on assignment. I have my own unique way of seeing a situation / the world and to me it really is story telling and I'm the author.
To be honest, I am quite obsessed with the forests of BC and could be happy taking photos here forever
The 41-year-old photographer has been traveling across the country in his van photographing Canadians, 5000 so far
I do like the idea of preserving a community and a time. It seems a lot of photography is, at one level or another, about fighting back against the relentless tide of time erasing everything.
I like to travel light, usually one camera with one lens. I like to hang out. I like to go back to the same place over and over again. I like to watch for the little changes.
Basically, I go and have an adventure and write about it.
We are working hard to create a place where people can engage with photography
I think I was pretty realistic about what to expect when starting a business.

Easter Sunday East Sooke Park Hike

I went out with Spencer and Nick for an Easter Sunday hike through East Sooke Park. It was the first time I’d hiked the park and it was a great way to build up an appetite for a big family turkey dinner. There were some pretty dark clouds hovering on the horizon but it stayed dry the whole time we were out which was a bonus but we did have to detour home after a tree fell across the road we’d driven in on.

A leisurely drive out to Jordan River on New Year’s Eve day. Some snow but mainly low dark clouds and rain. Beautiful west coast weather, if you like that sort of thing, and I do.

Highway at Jordan River from the site of Shakies, the surfer cafe now closed. You can however, now get a great cup of coffee just at the other end of town at the small cafe right on the curve as you head towards Sombrio.
