Vancouver Island Weather
The beautiful thing about the weather here on the southern tip on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island is that this photo could have been taken this week as I saw lots of golfers on the links while driving around. The unfortunate thing about the weather here is that this image was actually taken last June.
New York Percussion Dance Troupe STOMP in Victoria
Yesterday a few members of the New York based percussion dance troupe STOMP made an appearance inside the Atrium building in downtown Victoria, BC to promote their upcoming shows here in August. I wanted a view that would show the dancers, the crowd and the unique architectural shape of the buildings interior.

Fishing Boat and Fire Hydrant, Maple Ridge, British Columbia
One of the things I like to do is find other photographers who use the Pacific Northwest as a subject. Lately I’ve been looking at the images of Missy Prince, a Portland based photographer who seems to divide her time between Portland and the southern USA. She’s interesting as well in that she doesn’t have regular website but appears to simply use Flickr as …

Lumen Prints
Made my first Lumen prints this weekend. I’ve made quite a few photograms in the past and always liked their hard edges and contrast but I’m quite taken with the subtle colours and ghostly image you get with the Lumen prints. I have a fair stack of outdated black and white printing paper so now that I have a rough idea of what I’m doing …
Bucking The Trend, Printing Photographs Small
A couple of weeks off which has been good for some travel, Kamloops, Maple Ridge, Vancouver and Portland, and now I’ve been doing some printing. I know everyone seems to be going for big photographs but I’m enjoying making small prints.
Luceo Images – You Are Here
The photographer’s from Luceo Images, the American photo collective, are the photography world’s (or at least the photojournalism world’s) current IT girls, the stars of the scene. It’s with good reason too. They have taken up the challenge of working in a world that is often seen as falling apart, no work, no venues for display and no money to be earned, and found new …
Photo Group Talks
BC Ferries, Swartz Bay, BC 2012 I’ve spoken to a number of photo groups lately, showing some of my images and talking about the projects. The audiences have been great, very appreciative and always lots of questions and discussion afterwards. It’s a two way street though. I get lots of feedback on my images which is so helpful and it’s often a surprise which photographs …

The first time for continuing ed and it was a great experience. A small class but enthusiastic and everyone ended up working on a great project of their choice. The best part of teaching for me is watching the students’ confidence and skill improve …
Olympic Peninsula Weekend Road Trip
Hit the road for a weekend with a trip around the Olympic Peninsula. I’d been down the east side before travelling to and from Portland but hadn’t done the whole loop around the peninsula. Great trip although the weather was constantly changing, providing a number of challenges for driving and making it difficult to get all the photos I wanted. That said it was a …

Salmon Triumph Followed By Tragedy
This photo was taken two weeks ago along Colquitz Creek. The youngsters were being shown a large spawned out male Coho salmon. The volunteers at the creek were ecstatic. They’d been seeing the largest returns of spawning salmon in years. Later that afternoon, an oil spill occurred sending the fluid into the creek. The salmon have disappeared and attempts continue to try and clean the …

The great thing about Spiderman is that as Peter Parker he makes a living as a news photographer so he knows what photographers need. A local radio dude strikes an action pose for photographer Jesse Hlady.
The Summer that Was
Summer returned for a couple of days but tonight the rains came back, just in time for my bike ride. Time to buy fenders for the bike I think. Anyhow, the photo above was taken a few weeks back at a high school football game when we were in the middle of our late arriving but hot dry summer. A reminder of what was.
